What’s the biggest mistake most content creators make
Identifying this first mistake is one of the best secrets to making big money as a creator. Luria believes that one of the biggest mistakes creators make is having the wrong mindset.
Most creators make money through sponsorships, ads, and memberships. Sound familiar?
These are great ways to make money through videos and should not be ignored. However, the problem is with relying solely on content to bring money.
Luria asks you to think about what happens when you are sick or there’s a death in the family. You’ll be unable to publish content. For example, she was sick the whole month of December and couldn’t do anything.
That’s why she thinks that the big mindset shift creators need to make is thinking about themselves as entrepreneurs building a business. This gives them the ability to have a sustainable long-term business.
What should new creators focus on when they’re just starting out
It’s easy to get distracted in the beginning stages of your journey as a creator. You might be chasing squirrels and shifting your content drastically. And that’s okay. You’re still figuring everything out and experimenting.
But there’s one piece of overwhelming advice that you keep getting: “Be consistent.”
Unpopular Opinion: Being consistent is great, but it could lead to burnout.
Luria shares that it’s okay to be consistently inconsistent. You’re still figuring out your schedule, and you’re finding what works for you. There is so much pressure right in the beginning.
Luria even recalls her own journey when she was starting out. She was the poster child of being consistently inconsistent. She wasn’t really publishing at the same time and at the same day. Most of her friends were live streaming every week, but she was okay with streaming twice a month. She felt guilty at first, but she realized that it was okay. And it worked out for her.
How do content creators make money even with a small audience
Once you’ve got your schedule down, the next thing you may be asking about is, “How to make money as a content creator even if you have a small audience?”
You might be thinking of waiting until you have 1000 subscribers before monetizing their videos. But Luria says that you can monetize as soon as you have an engaged audience. It doesn’t have to be over a thousand.
Luria shares the amazing success of her student, Amanda Smiles, a bookkeeper who wanted to go live and promote her services. She started from scratch and was going live for the first time. But Luria encouraged her to stick with her script even if she had zero views.
And that’s exactly what happened. She had zero live viewers! But the next day, one person saw her live stream, and eventually became a client with a $3000 contract. That contract became a much bigger contract over the course of the next few months.
And that’s a powerful thing to realize. Luria adds, “You don’t need tons of viewers. You need the right viewers.”
How do you build the ideal business as a creator
The next big secret to making money as a creator is to build an ideal business. Working on your mindset is one thing, but taking that into action is another.
Luria says the first step is to ask yourself, “What does the ideal business look like?” Build towards that. Know what you want. You want to build a business that supports your lifestyle. If you want to take a month-long vacation, you should be able to do that.
What are the proven strategies to consistently keep money and scale your revenue
Luria shares that the first step is to have a process in place. It can be as simple as following up with your leads through email.
She also recommends joining community and accelerator programs that can help creators in different phases of their journey. This way, you have access to a proven system and framework and don’t have to start from scratch.
It doesn’t even have to be a paid program. Luria has a free live masterclass that teaches creators to make $5000 a month from their videos experience and systems in place that you can recreate.
Luria recalls her own journey where she had to start from scratch after losing two million followers. It was scary, but she said she had gone through it before and could do it again.
How does taking breaks help you make more money
Last but not least is to learn how to take breaks. It seems scary to take a break and not produce any content. You might lose your audience.
Luria assures us that our audience is still going to be there. And if you take care of your health, you can come back harder swinging.
She also adds that creators need to talk more about burnout because so many people feel alone in the process. That's not a mentally healthy place to be. You don’t even have to take a break from everything! You can just take a break from creating content, but take the time to build your business from the backend.
Next steps to build your content empire
As a content creator in 2023, it's important to have a strategic approach to making money from your content. Creators should think of themselves as entrepreneurs building a business for long-term sustainability. More importantly, new creators should not feel pressured to be consistent but find their own schedule instead.
Lastly, even with a small audience, creators can monetize their content as long as they have an engaged audience. By following these tips, creators can achieve financial success while continuing to produce high-quality content for their audience.
